Ante-post favourite for this year’s Melbourne Cup, Profound Beauty, has been withdrawn from the big race after her owners decided she would not make the trip to Australia.
The five-year-old has been heavily backed in the betting ahead of the Flemington showpiece and she was expected to go into quarantine on Tuesday.
However trainer Dermot Weld has ruled her out of the race and she will not be making the big trip.
“It’s a decision by the owners that they don’t want to run in the Melbourne Cup,” Mark Weld, son of the trainer explained.
“She worked really well yesterday morning and looked to be back to her summer form.
“But the owners have decided not to go,” added Weld, whose father trained two Melbourne Cup winners in Vintage Crop (1993) and Media Puzzle (2004).
Profound Beauty’s absence means there will be no Irish runner in the showpiece.
